Two fixed goatskin heads enclose beads that roll and bounce across the inside of this Roosebeck drum. Tilt it slowly for waves on a beach, roll it in every direction for a storm, shake it like a shekere or strike it like a frame drum.

Making Weather

For a storm, hold the drum level and slowly roll and tilt it in all directions; try different speeds. For waves, tip it gently back and forth. Tap the head with your fingers for thunder.
