Collection: Native American Flutes

The Native American flute has one of the most immediately recognizable voices in world music. Its breathy, meditative tone comes from a simple two-chamber wooden design that produces major pentatonic scales and plays beautifully with almost no training. Roosebeck Native American-style flutes are handcrafted from solid tonewoods, pre-tuned to standard keys, and ready to play the moment you open the box.

Solid wood, not plastic. Real tonewoods, shaped by hand, give these flutes the warm breathy character the instrument is famous for.

Standard key tunings. Each flute is tuned to a specific key so it's ready to play with other musicians or along with recordings.

Pentatonic scale layout. The finger hole placement produces a minor pentatonic scale, which means everything you play sounds musical. There are no wrong notes.

Hand-carved block (the "bird"). The carved wooden block that sits on top of the flute is what creates the Native American flute's signature sound. Every one is finished by hand.

If you're new to the instrument, let the key of the flute guide you. Lower keys (A, G) produce a deeper, more meditative sound ideal for relaxation and contemplative playing.

Higher keys (D, E) are brighter and carry better in outdoor or group settings. Experienced players often own flutes in several keys so they can match the mood of the moment.

There's no embouchure to learn. Blow gently into the mouthpiece, cover and uncover the finger holes, and the flute does the rest. Most new players are producing recognizable melodies within an hour.

The instrument is traditionally associated with meditation, storytelling, and personal reflection, and it's equally at home in modern ambient and world music.
