Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about ordering, shipping, care, and the Roosebeck story.

Shipping and Delivery

Does Roosebeck offer free shipping?

Roosebeck offers free standard shipping on every order within the continental United States, applied automatically at checkout with no code required. Orders shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories are charged calculated carrier rates at checkout based on weight and destination. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

How long does delivery take?

Most orders ship from our Palm Bay, Florida facility within 1 to 2 business days, and standard delivery to the continental United States takes 3 to 7 business days after shipping. Florida and Southeast addresses usually arrive faster, West Coast addresses sit at the longer end of the window. We ship primarily via FedEx, with USPS Ground Advantage or USPS Priority Mail. You will receive a tracking number by email as soon as your order is on its way. Delivery estimates come from our carriers and are not guarantees, weather and peak holiday volume can affect transit time.

Do you ship internationally?

Roosebeck.com ships to all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories, international shipping is not currently available. If you are outside the United States and would like a Roosebeck instrument, email info@roosebeck.com and we will do our best to help.

Why is shipping calculated for orders to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico?

Shipping large wooden instruments to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and other U.S. territories costs several times what the same shipment costs within the continental United States, so a flat free-shipping threshold is not practical for those destinations. Calculated rates appear at checkout based on the weight, dimensions, and destination of your order, so you see the exact cost before you commit to anything.

Do I need to sign for my delivery?

Orders over $500 require an adult signature at delivery. This protects your instrument against package theft. If you will not be home, you can use the carrier's notification system to authorize delivery without a signature, but doing so transfers responsibility for any loss after delivery to you.

Sales Tax

Do I pay sales tax on my order?

Roosebeck collects sales tax only on orders shipping to Florida. If your shipping address is anywhere outside Florida, no sales tax is added at checkout.

Why does my order show no sales tax?

Roosebeck's current sales tax obligation applies only to Florida, so orders shipping to any other U.S. state or territory correctly show $0 in sales tax at checkout. This is accurate, not a promotional discount or an error.

Ordering and Payment

What payment methods does Roosebeck accept?

Roosebeck.com accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and Diners Club, along with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Shop Pay. Shop Pay Installments is also available at checkout if you prefer to split your purchase into smaller payments.

Is checkout on Roosebeck.com secure?

Yes. Roosebeck.com runs on Shopify, which encrypts all checkout and payment pages using TLS. Your card number is never stored on Roosebeck's servers, payment data goes directly to a PCI-compliant payment processor.

Can I change or cancel an order after placing it?

Email info@roosebeck.com as soon as possible if you need to cancel your order. Most orders ship within 1โ€“2 business days.

Please note: We are unable to modify existing orders (including changes to items, quantities, or shipping details). You will need to cancel the current order and place a new one. We will do our best to cancel it before packing begins if notified in time.

Do you offer discount codes or promotions?

Roosebeck occasionally offers dollar-off promotions on qualifying orders. Promotions are announced to our email list first. You can join the list to hear about them.

Your Instrument on Arrival

Does my instrument arrive tuned?

Instruments are set up and played before shipping, but wood and strings settle during transit and with changes in humidity and temperature, so plan to tune your instrument before the first play. Give it a few minutes to settle after tuning before you begin. A chromatic tuner works for any Roosebeck instrument. Mountain dulcimers most commonly tune to DAD, the owner's guide for your model lists its recommended tuning.

What comes in the box with my instrument?

Most Roosebeck instruments ships with a printed owner's guide covering tuning, basic care, and initial setup. Most models include accessories specific to that instrument. Typical inclusions by family:

  • Mountain dulcimers: a pick and a noter
  • Hammered dulcimers: a pair of dulcimer hammers, a tuning tool, and an extra string set
  • Celtic harps: a tuning tool and an extra string set (gig bags are sold separately)
  • Lutes: a padded gig bag
  • Renaissance and Baroque guitars and the vihuela: a well-padded gig bag with a pocket, hand grip, and shoulder strap
  • Oud: a gig bag and an oud pick
  • Tunable bodhrans: a tipper and a tuning wrench
  • Frame drums: a leather beater
  • Ukuleles, Baroq-uleles, and lute-kuleles: a gig bag
  • Balalaikas: a nylon gig bag and a pick
  • Irish bouzouki: a padded gig bag

Each product page lists the exact inclusions for that model.

What tonewoods are Roosebeck instruments made from?

Roosebeck instruments are built from solid tonewoods chosen for acoustic quality and long-term durability, including rosewood, walnut, spruce, and mulberry depending on the model. Rosewood is common on backs and fretboards, spruce appears on soundboards, mulberry is used on bodhran shells, walnut features on larger instruments such as Celtic harps. Each product page lists the specific woods used in that model. For a closer look at how tonewoods shape playability and tone, visit The Workshop.

Care and Support

How do I care for a wooden instrument?

Keep your instrument away from extreme heat, cold, and rapid humidity changes, which are the primary causes of cracking and warping in solid wood. Store it in a case or gig bag when not in use, and wipe down the strings and body with a soft, dry cloth after each session. Rosewood fretboards benefit from occasional conditioning with a fingerboard oil made for unfinished wood; avoid furniture polish and anything containing silicone. The owner's guide that ships with your instrument covers model-specific care in detail, and The Workshop has maintenance articles for specific instruments.

Where do I find the owner's guide for my instrument?

A printed owner's guide ships in the box with every Roosebeck instrument, and digital versions are available on product pages. If you cannot locate the guide for your model, email info@roosebeck.com and we will send it directly.

How do I reach a real person at Roosebeck?

Email info@roosebeck.com and a member of our team will reply, typically the same or next business day, Monday through Friday. You can also send a message through our Contact page. We answer questions about instruments, orders, care, and anything else you need a real answer on.

Returns and Warranty

What is Roosebeck's return policy?

Roosebeck.com accepts returns within 30 days of delivery on items in new, unused, resalable condition in their original packaging. Email info@roosebeck.com with your order number to request a Return Authorization number, which is required for all returns. You are responsible for return shipping, and we recommend insuring the package for the full value of the instrument. Refunds go to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days after we receive and inspect the return. Strings, picks, tippers, and other consumables are final sale. Full terms are on our Returns and Refunds page. If you purchased from a retailer other than Roosebeck.com, that seller's return policy applies, contact them directly.

What if my instrument arrives damaged?

Contact us within 3 days of delivery at info@roosebeck.com with your order number and clear photos of the shipping box, the packaging, and the damage to the instrument. Keep all original packaging until the claim is resolved. We will work with the carrier and arrange a repair, replacement, or refund. Damage reported after 3 days cannot be processed as a shipping claim.

Is there a warranty on Roosebeck instruments?

Roosebeck instruments are covered against manufacturing defects. If a defect appears after the 30-day return window, email info@roosebeck.com with photos and a description; most issues are resolved with a repair, replacement parts, or a replacement instrument at our discretion. We have been building these instruments since 1973 and we stand behind our work.

About Roosebeck

How long has Roosebeck been building folk instruments?

Our family has been building handcrafted folk instruments since 1973, and Roosebeck launched in 2010 as the family's flagship line of fine acoustic instruments. Mountain dulcimers, Celtic harps, Renaissance lutes, bodhrans, and world strings all come from the same decades-long commitment to solid tonewoods and careful hand finishing. You can read the full story on our About page.

Where are Roosebeck instruments made?

Every Roosebeck instrument is skillfully handcrafted in a multi-generational, family-run workshop we've partnered with for decades. We use premium solid tonewoods and time-honored traditional techniques, enhanced by modern precision tools like CNC and laser cutters where they truly improve consistency and detail. Final inspection, careful setup, and dedicated customer support all happen right here at our headquarters in Palm Bay, Florida.

Where are Roosebeck instruments designed and finished?

Roosebeck instruments are designed and finished in Palm Bay, Florida, where every instrument is set up, played, and inspected by our team before it ships to its new home.

Who is behind Roosebeck Fine Instruments?

Roosebeck Fine Instruments is a brand of EnSoul Music Designs, Inc., a family-run business based in Palm Bay, Florida, now in its third generation of family leadership.

Is Roosebeck a good brand for beginners?

Yes, making folk instruments accessible to first-time players is central to what Roosebeck builds. The Grace mountain dulcimer arrives set up so once tuned, its open strings already form a chord. The 19-string Pixie harp and 22-string Heather harp is sized and priced as a true first harp, and the 14-inch tunable bodhran is a natural starting drum. Every instrument ships with an owner's guide covering tuning and first steps, and The Workshop has beginner buying guides for each instrument family.

Can I buy Roosebeck instruments somewhere other than Roosebeck.com?

Yes, Roosebeck instruments are also available through independent music retailers and online sellers. Buying directly at Roosebeck.com gets you the full catalog and support straight from our Palm Bay team, but a Roosebeck instrument is a Roosebeck instrument wherever you find it.
