Irish & Greek Bouzoukis

The bouzouki is a long-necked lute with eight strings in four pairs. The Greek bouzouki, with its rounded staved bowl, is the voice of rebetiko and Greek folk music. The Irish bouzouki took the Greek instrument and reshaped it for Celtic music in the 1960s: a flat back, a longer scale and open modal tunings such as GDAD that sit under fiddles and flutes in a session.

We offer an 8-string Irish bouzouki and a 4-course Greek bouzouki. Replacement sets are in Oud and World Instrument Strings, and if you are choosing between the two, ask us.
