Mountain Dulcimer

Roosebeck Cutaway Mountain Dulcimer, 4-String Rosewood

Roosebeck Cutaway Mountain Dulcimer, 4-String Rosewood

4-String Cutaway Body Spruce Top Scrolled Pegbox

Ideal for: Players who want high-fret access and an instrument with character

One of Roosebeck's most visually striking mountain dulcimers.

The cutaway upper bout gives you easy access to the higher frets, a practical feature wrapped in beautiful design. The carved scrolled pegbox adds a touch of old-world luthier craftsmanship that turns heads whether the instrument is on stage or displayed on a wall.

Clear, Resonant Projection

Built with the same attention to tonewoods and construction that defines the Roosebeck line, this dulcimer pairs a spruce soundboard with f-hole openings for clear, resonant projection. The cutaway body shape doesn't compromise the sound, it just opens up more of the fretboard to you.

About the spruce top: A responsive spruce soundboard is the heart of the dulcimer's voice. It reacts dynamically to your playing, rewarding both soft fingerstyle and confident strumming.

Cutaway Body and Scrolled Pegbox

The cutaway upper bout is a practical feature that gives you easy access to the higher frets, particularly useful for players who like to explore the upper register of the instrument.

The hand-carved scrolled pegbox is a genuine conversation piece. It recalls centuries of European luthier tradition and gives this dulcimer a distinctive silhouette you won't find on a typical Appalachian design.

Why the cutaway helps: On a standard dulcimer, the upper bout can make higher-fret playing awkward. The cutaway removes that obstacle so your fretting hand has clean access to the full range.

Easy to Play, Room to Grow

The 4-string setup with two melody, one middle, and one bass drone is ready for DAD tuning. The full fret layout with 6½ and 13½ frets gives you the chromatic range for versatile playing, while the cutaway invites you to explore higher up the neck as your playing develops.

New to dulcimer? DAD tuning means your open strings already form a D major chord. Strum all four strings and you hear music immediately. Most players pick out simple melodies within their first 15 minutes.
