Roosebeck Grace Walnut 4-String Mountain Dulcimer

4-String Solid Walnut Spruce Top Vaulted Fretboard

Ideal for: Beginners, folk musicians, and players who prefer walnut's warmer character

The Grace design in solid walnut, with a slightly darker voice.

This is the walnut edition of the Grace. Same vaulted fretboard design, same proven construction, with a body crafted from solid walnut instead of sheesham. Walnut brings a warmer visual tone and a subtle richness to the instrument's voice that many players prefer.

Warm, Slightly Darker Tone

Solid walnut gives this dulcimer a slightly warmer, darker tonal character compared to sheesham. The straight-grained spruce soundboard balances the walnut's depth with clarity, and four classic f-hole openings let the top project clearly whether you are strumming chords or picking out melodies.

About the tonewoods: Walnut is a classic American hardwood known for a warm, focused tone with strong mids. Paired with a responsive spruce top, it produces a voice with depth and presence.

Walnut Body, Vaulted Fretboard

The solid walnut body is finished with walnut skirt accents at both ends, giving the instrument a cohesive, handcrafted look. Four classic f-holes project the sound, and the vaulted fretboard lifts the playing surface away from the top so the soundboard can vibrate freely.

The elegant hourglass shape and crown-style tailpiece complete a look that's as beautiful as it sounds.

Why vaulted matters: On a flat-fretboard dulcimer, the fretboard sits directly on the soundboard, dampening vibration. The Grace's vaulted design creates an air gap that lets the soundboard resonate freely.

Easy to Play Right from the Start

This is a true 4-string dulcimer with two melody strings, one middle string, and one bass drone, set up for traditional DAD tuning out of the box. It is the easiest way to pick up the instrument and start playing right away.

The 14:1 ratio right-angle tuners make precise tuning simple, and the 6½ and 13½ frets give you chromatic flexibility to play in multiple modes. Extra nut notches let you customize string spacing, or convert to a 3-string setup if you prefer.

New to dulcimer? DAD tuning means your open strings already form a D major chord. Strum all four strings and you hear music immediately. Most players pick out simple melodies within their first 15 minutes.
