7-Inch PairRosewood or EbonyCurved and Tapered

Ideal for: Irish and folk musicians, session players and bodhran players adding a second rhythm instrument

A pair of 7 inch bones in dense Rosewood or ebony.

Bones are one of the oldest rhythm instruments in Irish and folk music: two curved slats held in one hand and rocked together to click out a beat. These Roosebeck bones are 7 inches long and 7/8 inch wide, with a slight curve, and taper from 1/16 to 1/4 inch thick. The dense hardwood gives a clear, sharp click.

Holding the Bones

Hold one bone between your index and middle fingers and the other between your middle and ring fingers, curves facing each other. Keep a loose wrist and rotate it as if shaking water off your hand; the free bone strikes the fixed one. Start slowly with a steady triplet and the rhythm comes with practice.
