13 Strings / 7 Courses Solid Rosewood Spruce Top Travel-Size Gig Bag Included

Ideal for: Beginning lutenists and experienced players who want a practical travel lute

Authentic Renaissance sound, a little easier to live with.

The 7-Course Travel Lute is ideal for players who want authentic Renaissance lute sound in a slightly more manageable instrument. With 13 strings in 7 courses, it covers the most commonly used range for Renaissance lute repertoire while being easier to tune and maintain than the 8-course version.

Warm, Classical Lute Tone

Rectified nylon strings and silverplated copper wound bass strings produce warm, classical tone across 13 strings in 7 courses. The spruce soundboard and rosewood stave body work together to deliver the intimate voice that defines the lute.

About the tonewoods: Solid rosewood staves form the bowl. Rosewood is a dense hardwood prized for warmth and resonance, and the spruce top responds dynamically under the fingers.

Compact Travel Design

Solid rosewood stave construction, spruce soundboard, and rosewood pegbox angled at 135 degrees keep the profile compact for travel. Nylon frets on the neck and rosewood frets on the soundboard give you authentic Renaissance fretting positions.

Why the angled pegbox: The traditional 135-degree pegbox angle reduces the overall footprint of the instrument and changes the string break angle at the nut, both practical considerations for a travel lute.

A Great Entry Point Into Lute Playing

Seven courses cover the core Renaissance repertoire while keeping the instrument more approachable than a full 8-course lute. Fewer strings to tune, fewer strings to maintain, and a gentler learning curve without sacrificing authentic playing experience.

New to lute? Start with a 7-course and you'll be able to play the majority of Renaissance lute music written before the late 16th century. Move up to 8-course later if you want the expanded bass range.
