The balalaika is one of the most recognizable instruments in the world, and the Roosebeck Prima puts this iconic Russian stringed instrument within reach. The prima is the most common balalaika size, the one used for melody playing in folk ensembles and solo performance.

Bright, Cutting, Percussive Voice

The spruce soundboard delivers bright, cutting tone with the rapid decay that gives the balalaika its distinctive percussive character. Three strings (one steel with ball end, two titanium with straight ends) produce clear, projecting sound that carries well in ensemble and solo settings.

About the titanium strings: Titanium strings offer a polished, smooth feel similar to nylon but with brighter tone and increased projection. A modern upgrade over traditional gut or plain nylon.

Classic Triangular Body, Solid Sheesham

The classic triangular body shape is built with a slightly curved back in solid sheesham. It's an immediately recognizable silhouette, and one of the most distinctive-looking instruments you can play.

At approximately 27 inches in length with a 430mm scale, the Prima is comfortable to hold and play whether you're seated or standing.

Why the triangle: The balalaika's triangular body isn't just aesthetic. The shape is part of what produces its distinctive focused, percussive tone, very different from a round- or guitar-shaped body.
