Mountain Dulcimer

Roosebeck Grace Mountain Dulcimer, 4-String Walnut Knotwork

Roosebeck Grace Mountain Dulcimer, 4-String Walnut Knotwork

4-String Solid Walnut Spruce Top Vaulted Fretboard Celtic Knotwork Sound Holes

Ideal for: Players who want the Grace platform with a brighter walnut voice and Celtic detail

The Grace dulcimer in walnut, with hand-cut Celtic knotwork sound holes.

The Grace Mountain Dulcimer in walnut takes our most popular vaulted-fretboard design and pairs it with a brighter, lighter tonewood and laser-cut Celtic knotwork in place of the standard f-holes. The result is a dulcimer that sounds slightly more open and articulate than the rosewood Grace, with a soundboard ornamented in traditional Celtic interlace patterns. Set up for DAD tuning and ready to play out of the box.

Bright, Articulate Appalachian Voice

Walnut is a lighter, brighter tonewood than rosewood, which gives this Grace a slightly more focused, snappier response than its rosewood sibling. The straight-grained spruce soundboard pairs with the walnut body to produce clear, well-defined notes whether you're picking out a melody or strumming through chords.

About the tonewoods: Walnut has been a prized stringed instrument wood for centuries, balancing brightness with warmth. The spruce soundboard responds dynamically to both light fingerpicking and full strumming.

Vaulted Fretboard, Celtic Knotwork Sound Holes

The vaulted fretboard arches the playing surface away from the soundboard, freeing the top to vibrate openly. The result is noticeably richer projection and volume compared to flat-fretboard designs.

This Knotwork variant replaces the standard four f-hole openings with hand-cut Celtic interlace patterns. The knotwork is functional (it lets the soundboard breathe) and visually distinctive, especially in the lighter walnut grain.

Why vaulted matters: On a flat-fretboard dulcimer, the fretboard sits directly on the soundboard, dampening vibration. The Grace's vaulted design creates an air gap that lets the soundboard resonate freely.

Easy to Play Right from the Start

This is a true 4-string dulcimer with two melody strings, one middle string, and one bass drone. Start with traditional DAD tuning. It's the easiest way to pick up the instrument and start playing right away.

The 14:1 ratio right-angle tuners make precise tuning simple. The 6½ and 13½ frets give you the chromatic flexibility to play in multiple modes and handle accidental notes with ease.

New to dulcimer? DAD tuning means your open strings already form a D major chord. Strum all four strings and you hear music immediately. Most players pick out simple melodies within the first 15 minutes.
