In humid weather it loosens and the voice drops; in dry air it tightens and rises. Keep the drum away from rain, heaters and hot cars. If the head goes slack on a damp day, tune it by warmth: rub the head briskly with your palm, or hold the drum near (never against) a gentle heat source such as a lamp, turning it as you go.
